Newell’s Old Boys have released a video of World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi in his first ever interview as a child.

The 35-year-old got his hands on football's ultimate prize as he helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup on Sunday.

Messi and Angel Di Maria put Argentina two goals to the good, before Kylian Mbappe netted a brace late on to send the match to extra time.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Messi made it 3-2 with his seventh goal of the tournament, but Mbappe levelled with his hat-trick goal late on, meaning penalties were required.

Argentina secured victory in the end, with goalkeeper Emilano Martinez keeping out one of France’s spot kicks, which meant Les Bleus surrendered their crown - in one of the greatest games you will ever see.

In honour of his achievement, his boyhood club posted a video to show the world where it all began, with the young prodigy being asked if he knew he was selected as the Man Of the Match after one stirring display.

With blushed cheeks, he replied: "No."

And when asked to describe a goal he scored, Messi said: "The ball came from Federico Rosso Griggini, he gave it to Lucas, Lucas gave it to me, and I scored it."

After being asked who he will dedicate his two goals to, he said at the time: “I will dedicate it to my father, to my uncle, to all my family, and to all the people who know me."

The youngster played for the Argentinian side from 1995-2000 as a youth player before moving to Barcelona.

After helping his side to secure victory over France in Qatar, he now has all the trophies possible at both club and international level.

Having already previously won ten LaLiga titles, four Champions League's and the Copa America, Messi now completes his glistening trophy collection with the ultimate prize which had previously eluded him.
