Speaking on The Sports Breakfast, Brazil explained: “British darts star Owen Bates has been told that he won’t be able to use his nickname at the world championship in December.”

Hearing McCoist’s giggles, Brazil said: “What are you laughing at, you don’t know the story yet,” to which the Rangers legend replied: “No, but I’ve got a fair idea what’s coming – that’s pun intended” before bursting into fits of laughter.

Brazil continued: “The Professional Darts Competition has ruled against the 20-year-old using his rather amusing moniker after he qualified for the championship on the last day of the challenge tour.

“Bates qualified for the competition with ‘The Master’ on the back of his shirt – I’ll let you work that one out – but has now been told that he’ll need a new nickname on his world championship debut.

“Bates responded to the news on social media by writing ‘any suggestions on a new nickname’.”

With his name currently listed as Owen 'Master' Bates, it's no surprise to see the PDC take action, but the Scottish football legend was in protest at the decision.

McCoist, who was in hysterics the entire way through the story, said: “He’s got to keep it, come on!

“He’s keeping it. It’s the best nickname. I love it man, it’s hilarious!”
