Newcastle United have no intention of selling Bruno Guimaraes to Real Madrid this summer, talkSPORT understands.

The Brazil international has been in sensational form helping the Magpies qualify for next season’s Champions League.

His performances have attracted the attention of Europe’s big boys and among them, Real Madrid who are planning to bolster their midfield this summer.

But acquiring Guimaraes would take some doing with Newcastle holding firm on their stance that the 25-year-old is not for sale.

The Brazilian has five goals and assists to his name across all competitions this season, having made 40 appearances.

He was also part of Brazil’s 26-man squad that were knocked out of the Qatar World Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Guimaraes has become a fan-favourite since moving to St James’ Park in January 2022, from French side Lyon.

The combative midfielder is contracted to the club until 2026 and if his recent exclusive interview with talkSPORT is anything to go by, Guimaraes might be staying put for a while longer.

“It was a fantastic move for me,” he told Jim White in April. “I think the best thing that could have happened in my life was to join Newcastle.

“I’m so happy here, I’m living my dreams here, I’ve been playing very, very well since I signed for the club. I think the job of the guys, the job of the manager making me happy here, making my family happy, making me dream.

“Since I signed on my first day I said I’d like to play Champions League with this shirt, and the people said I was crazy because we were fighting for relegation and saying ‘this guy’s so ambitious’.

"Yeah I am ambitious and I will keep my ambitions because my life is like that and I’m proud to have what I’ve been doing here.”

He continued: "I think the fans love it because we respect the shirt, we love them and it’s because of that they love us as well.

“Yeah I will [stay here for a long time], I’ve said that I’d like to put my name in the club’s history and I’m thinking that I’m in a good way.”
