Tim Tszyu made an emphatic statement on Saturday night when he knocked out Carlos Ocampo in round one.

The son of former undisputed super lightweight world champion Kostya Tszyu, showed off his terrific punch power at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia.

Just one minute into the fight, as Tszyu was stalking his opponent around the ring, he landed clean right hand that saw Ocampo drop to his knees.

The Mexican made it back to his feet, but unfortunately for him, the fight would not last much longer.

Moments later, Tszyu once again pounced on his opponent, unloading a thunderous combination that almost made Ocampo fall through the ropes.

At this point, the referee had seen enough, as he waved off the contest to hand the unbeaten Tszyu his 23rd victory and 17th knockout.

Big knockouts

Tszyu had a simple message after the fight, saying: "I think that was a statement made."

Meanwhile, WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford clearly liked what he saw, as he tweeted: "He’s dangerous."

With this victory, Tszyu defended his WBO interim super welterweight title, meaning he is mandatory challenger for the WBO belt.

As it stands, all four belts in the division are held by undisputed champion Jermell Charlo and so Tszyu could have put himself in a position to challenge the American next, potentially this year.

“There’s no doubt I’m going to America, that’s the land I want to conquer,” Tszyu added. “I’m not satisfied with his interim belt - I want all four and I want the name Charlo on my resume. Let’s dance in October."
