Conor Benn is not in the clear over his positive drugs tests and will now face a fresh process regarding the matter.

The 26-year-old welterweight contender twice tested positive for the banned PED (performance-enhancing drug) clomifene in two separate VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) drugs tests last year, but claimed last month that he had been 'cleared' in his UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) case.

Indeed, a decision made by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) saw Benn's suspension lifted last month, clearing him to box again.

However, no statement ever emerged from UKAD clearing him of wrongdoing and they insisted that they could still appeal the NADP decision.

Now, according to the Mail, both UKAD and the BBBofC (British Boxing Board of Control) have done exactly that.

Prior to the NADP hearing, it had been reported that Benn had two separate parts to his defence.

One was based on technicalities of jurisdiction as his team were reported to be arguing that he was outside of UKAD's jurisdiction because he gave up his BBBofC licence, and questioned whether UKAD can rule on VADA drugs tests.

The other was based on science put forward by his team which insisted that his urine sample contained clomifene metabolites consistent with food contamination, likely from contaminated eggs.

When Benn claimed he had been 'cleared' last month, his promoter Eddie Hearn insisted: "This was not a decision based on jurisdiction."

However, the Mail report that the NADP's decision to lift Benn's suspension in fact 'focused heavily' on UKAD’s inability to rule on VADA tests and did not include an examination of science explaining why clomifene was found in Benn's system.

Now, Benn will face a fresh process which is expected to take around two months.
