He joined current No.1 Andre Onana, who also made the switch to Old Trafford from Inter Milan after both David de Gea and Dean Henderson departed.

Bayindir was recently asked about his favourite glovesman in an interview that was posted on social media and waxed lyrical about Van der Sar, who won four Premier League titles and one Champions League crown as United's No.1.

“My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younger, I watched a lot of games of Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him," he said.

The Dutchman said: “Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!”

Van der Sar is the former chief executive of Ajax, where he worked with Onana, which would explain his love for the Cameroon international who is now a Red Devil.

However, it appears Erik ten Hag may soon give Bayindir his chance to shine between the sticks, with Onana set to head to the Africa Cup of Nationsin January.

Ten Hag recently heaped praise on the Turkish shot-stopper, saying: “He makes a very good impression in training, he's really developing and progressing.

"So we're very happy with that and we are convinced we have the two right goalkeepers in our squad to do the job for us.”

Ten Hag's side are currently sixth in the Premier League standings, five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Man United return to action when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
