Kai Havertz has signed for Arsenal to become the first transfer of the summer at the Emirates Stadium.

The Germany international has penned a long-term contract until 2028 at Arsenal which sees him join from Chelsea for £65million.

The two London clubs have been in negotiations over the past few weeks, but the deal has motored along at pace.

Havertz had already agreed to personal terms after conversations with manager Mikel Arteta.

The forward was left feeling extremely positive and was keen on making the move across town as a result.

On completing his move, Havertz said on Arsenal's official website: "It's super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things.

"The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.

"The aim is to win trophies and I'm going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club. I'm now looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season."

Arteta had put plenty of work himself into the transfer and sees Havertz as a key player next term.

It is the most that Arsenal have paid for a player since the Spaniard took over in 2019, trumping the £50m paid for Gabriel Jesus last summer.

Where the 24-year-old will fit into the starting line-up remains to be seen as a player that can operate anywhere across the frontline.

But it is likely that he could even take Granit Xhaka's place on the left of midfield, further bolstering an attack-minded squad.

While Havertz is the first signing at the Emirates this summer, it looks highly unlikely to be the last.

Talks are still ongoing over the transfer of Jurrien Timber, who has also been swooned by Arteta and wants to make the move from Ajax.

Another deal that is still on the cards is Declan Rice, with the Gunners set to beat Manchester City in the race for the West Ham and England star.

Xhaka is expected to leave for Bayer Leverkusen, where Havertz came up through the ranks, while Thomas Partey could also depart.

Arsenal have always been keen to make signings as soon as possible rather than let them drag on into the latter weeks of the transfer window.

Landing Havertz is a statement signing from the north London outfit, considering they have pinched him off their Premier League rivals.

It is the second transfer of its kind in recent times, having also brought in Jorginho from Stamford Bridge in January.

Both were key players at Chelsea as they won the Champions League in 2021, where Havertz scored the winner against City in the final.

As for the Blues, the German is one of several exits expected in the coming weeks.
