Ex-Charlton star’s son helps non-league Cray Valley to incredible FA Cup replay with Addicks
Non-league Cray Valley Paper Mills have incredibly managed to secure an FA Cup replay with Charlton Athletic as they battled to a 1-1 draw at The Valley.
An own goal by Lucas Ness brought Cray Valley, who play in the Isthmian League South East Division - the eighth tier of English football - level in the tie on Sunday.
Scott Fraser had given the Addicks a lead early in the first half and the equaliser had a familiar feel to it.
While the goal will be given as a Ness own goal, it was forced by the fine work of Kyrell Lisbie, son of ex-Charlton forward Kevin Lisbie, whose low cross from the left caused Ness to stick his leg out and put the ball past Addicks goalkeeper Sam Walker.
With over 150 places separating the two sides in the English football pyramid it would've been one of the iconic upsets in FA Cup history had Cray Valley managed to win.
But in arguably a better result for the non-league side given the financial rewards that lay in store, Cray Valley and the League One outfit will do it all again in the week commencing Monday November 13.
There were other shocks in Sunday's FA Cup ties as National League Chesterfield ran out 1-0 winners at home to Portsmouth, who are top of League One.
Meanwhile, National League South outfit Slough Town upset the odds by earning a 1-1 draw against League Two Grimsby Town.
Fleetwood Town didn't fall foul of the FA Cup's giant-killing ways as they won 2-1 at Kidderminster Harriers while Crewe Alexandra and Derby County played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
