Manchester United mocked by Checkatrade with not-so-subtle advert next to Old Trafford

Manchester United have received their fair share of stick this season, but now they're even being trolled by Checkatrade.

The online business, which links tradespeople with those in need of a particular service, posted a huge billboard just a stone's throw from Old Trafford to poke fun at their misfortune.

The advert pokes fun at the stadium's poor condition, most notably the roof that has been pictured leaking during heavy rain.

It features a big green tick next to 'leaky roof' on the checklist, indicating that they'd be able to fix the issue, as well as a red cross next to 'leaky defence'.

The advert then finishes with the sentence: "There are some things that even Checkatrade can't fix."

While light-hearted in nature, the huge billboard is targeting the believed huge lack of investment made by the Glazer family in recent years, leaving them struggling both on off the pitch.

As well as struggling to compete with fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool on the pitch, the run-down nature of Old Trafford means that they're also struggling in terms of infrastructure, something that Gary Neville said would have been unthinkable during his heyday.

Appearing on the Diary of a CEO podcast, the pundit said: "I used to laugh when I went to Anfield and compared it to Old Trafford.

"I'd always think: 'They can never catch up, they're too far behind'.

"They're building that second stand now behind the goal where the away fans sit.

"The main stand now is towering up. Anfield will be a more modern ground than Manchester United and Old Trafford in 12 months. That is unforgivable."

For Man United fans, the hope will be that Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority investment will start to put things right.

The INEOS owner is set to purchase 25 per cent of the club from the Glazers while taking ownership of sporting matters at the club.
