A teenage Ravel Morrison used to run rings around the Birmingham squad in training at a time when the sky was the limit for him.

That is according to his ex-Blues teammate Darren Ambrose, who like many has said the now-30-year-old has wasted his potential due to an 'attitude problem'.

The ex-Manchester United starlet was recently cut from the DC United squad by Wayne Rooney, who he played under at Derby, ahead of the upcoming MLS season.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder now in America with the former West Ham, QPR and Lazio man unable to feature for DC.

Once considered as one of football’s hottest prospects, his axing is just the latest setback in career as he looks set to find a 14th club.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, Ambrose reminisced about his time spent with Morrison at St Andrew's during the 2012/13 season.

Morrison - on loan from the Hammers at the time - chipped in with three goals and as many assists in 30 games in all competitions.

And Ambrose has stated that his obvious talent was there for all to see, as he likened him to Wilfried Zaha, who he shared a dressing room with at Crystal Palace.

On Morrison, Ambrose said: "He is off the cuff, I think that's the way I can explain him in terms of footballing ability and personal off-the-field side stuff as well.

"He's a unique character, a great kid when I was there, but he hasn't done enough for the ability that he has.

"I played with Wilf Zaha when he was 17/18 as well, and those two players I would say are the best two young talents that I have played with."

Morrison scored one of the best goals of the 2013/14 Premier League season for West Ham against Tottenham in a 3-0 win at White Hart Lane.

Picking up the ball inside his own half, he glided past Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson before chipping the onrushing Hugo Lloris.

And Ambrose revealed that that was a regular thing for Morrision to do in training as he commented on his silky skills.

The 39-year-old remarked: "I've seen him pick the ball up in training, dribble through everyone, turn, dribble back through everyone, turn, dribble through everyone and score.

"He had that much ability and that much talent, it's an attitude problem at the end of the day and that's the issue.

"He won't mind me saying that, because he was such a talented football player, but if you look in terms of his appearances - 191 appearances in his career, 26 goals.

"You have managers like Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce that couldn't control him."
