‘Get that on Netflix’ – Accrington chairman taunts Ryan Reynolds after beating Wrexham and public row over ticket prices

Accrington Stanley's chairman appeared to want to have the last laugh following a public spat with Wrexham on Saturday.

The League Two sides went head-to-head at the Wham Stadium, with the Welsh side looking to close the gap on league leaders Stockport County.

But just before the game, attention turned away from the football and onto the two clubs' owners, as Wrexham released a statement announcing they'd give Accrington fans a discount for the reverse fixture in March.

That was due to Accrington upping their match ticket price by £5 for all supporters for the clash in Lancashire this weekend - a fixture that saw 2587 Wrexham fans make up nearly half of the overall attendance.

Accrington chairman Andy Holt clearly wasn't happy with the thinly veiled dig, and hit out at his club's opponents, labelling their statement as 'stupid' and poorly timed.

But the war of words on X continued after the game, too.

Wrexham fell to their third league defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 2-0, with Paul Mullin missing a last minute to rub further salt in their wounds.

Holt made sure to revel in his side's first win in three against Wrexham, too, writing: "Accrington 2 Hollywood nil.

"I think Ryan Reynolds should cut prices by a tenner at Wrexham.

"Safe journey home folks. Get that on Netflix Ryan lad."

Holt is of course referring to Wrexham owners and actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who bought the club during the Covid-19 pandemic and have since fired it to world wide fame on their 'Welcome to Wrexham' docuseries.

There are now two seasons of the series, with a third one expected next year to cover this current campaign.

The show is actually aired on Disney+, not Netflix as Holt suggested.

But it's likely he is making reference to ex-Sheffield United's star Billy Sharp dig at Wrexham after their FA Cup loss to the Blades, with the striker telling them to 'shove it on the documentary' last campaign.
