  • City slicker

Pep Guardiola's recent comments on Manchester City's transfer strategy could pave the way for Kalvin Phillips to join Liverpool.

talkSPORT understands that the Reds, along with Newcastle, have the midfielder on their shortlist for the January transfer window.

Speaking when queried about Raheem Sterling's move to Premier League rivals Chelsea, he said: "Never. Never ever [would I stand in the way],"

"From my point of view, I have said this to the club many times. I give my opinion to the club and they decide if the transfer suits for both sides and the player.

“Why? I think that means you are a small club [if you block a transfer]. Big clubs, they don’t care. They make decisions for the benefit of all three parties, players and both clubs - and the agents sometimes. So really it is not a problem.‌

“If they want to go to Chelsea or [Manchester] United or, I don’t know, Liverpool, whatever, what is the problem? They are happy to be there and the club is happy with the transfer.

"The other club is happy with the amount of money they spend, so it is fine. Another player will come to us and we keep going in a good spirit and a good mood.”

  • Reece Lightening

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea captain Reece James.

According to the Independent - via the Manchester Evening News - City are keen on James as a replacement for Kyle Walker in the future.

Walker, who signed new terms at the Etihad until 2026 this summer, will be 36-years-old by the time his contract comes to an end.

  • Kelly price tag revealed

Bournemouth are set to ask for around £25million for defender Lloyd Kelly amid interest from Tottenham and Liverpool.

The Premier League giants are long-term admirers of Kelly but they will have to pay that fee for him, according to Football Insider.

He is out of contract this summer, however, both Spurs and the Reds are said to be interested ahead of the January window.

The fee could put them off though, and they could wait until the end of the season to battle it out for the centre-back.

  • Brandt new winger

Arsenal and Newcastle are both eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt.

According to The Mirror, the Premier League sides are more likely to make an approach in the summer rather than in January.

Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe are on the lookout for a new winger and the 27-year-old may be the answer.

Brandt joined Dortmund in 2019 and still has three years left on his current contract, meaning the move won't come cheap.

  • Bid for Beraldo?

Liverpool have flown to Brazil to begin talks with Sao Paulo teenager Lucas Beraldo, according to the Sun.

The 19-year-old defender is attracting interest from the Reds who sent staff to South America to try and persuade him to sign.

Jurgen Klopp is in need of a new centre-back and he has reportedly been tracking the U20 international for months.

Beraldo has become a regular starter for Sao Paulo and he could now be set for a huge move to Europe.

  • Evan Ferguson exclusive

Evan Ferguson revealed he took inspiration from Harry Kane growing up, but has named a Liverpool star as the greatest player he has ever played alongside.

He said: "I think Harry Kane, I looked at him quite a bit.

"I like [Robert] Lewandowski, I like watching [Zlatan] Ibrahimovich. Just some of the things that he'd do, some of the little flicks and the types of finishes that he could produce."

But Ferguson said the best player he had ever played with in his career so far is a former Brighton teammate, who now plays for Premier League rivals Liverpool.

He said: "The best I've played with? Probably Alexis [Mac Allister]. He’s obviously gone to Liverpool now, but I enjoyed playing with him.

"He'd always look forward and look for that penetrating pass."

  • Feeling Blue

Moises Caicedo has revealed he chose to join Chelsea over Liverpool with the help of a phone call from Enzo Fernandez.

"It was a nice chat," the 22-year-old, who has played 11 matches with the Argentina this season, said via the club website.

"I mean, the fact that a world champion was phoning you, one of the best midfielders in the world… receiving that call was very nice and he convinced me to come here.

"He said it was a great club, that there are many young players, there was a togetherness here.

"I have always enjoyed the bond in a team because I think that, if there is that bond, we can deal with any situation we may face: pressure, everything. So, that's what motivated me to come here.

"Now, I'm enjoying playing alongside him, in training as well, in rondos. We are always together. So, I'm very happy and I'm trying to do things better every day, as Enzo said, to be a good example for everyone at the club."

  • Gray matter

Liverpool are eyeing a £40million summer swoop for Leeds United's talented teenager, Archie Gray, according to reports.

The 17-year-old only made his debut four months ago and has been one of the standout stars in the Championship this season.

According to The Daily Mail, the Reds are running the rule over the youngster, with Jurgen Klopp a keen admirer.

The report adds Gray has been watched by both Crystal Palace and Everton.

Gray is able to feature anywhere across the midfield and also in the right-back position.

  • No rush Ramsdale

Mikel Arteta has warned Aaron Ramsdale not to rush any decision over his future and sent a warning to any clubs chasing the goalkeeper's signature.

England manager Gareth Southgate told Ramsdale he could not promise him a place in his Euro 2024 squad if he remains on the bench at Arsenal.

It comes amid links with a move away from the Gunners, with Chelsea one of the clubs reportedly interested.

Arteta says he hasn't spoken to Ramsdale but warned against a January move in a quest to find first-team football.

"First of all my door is open to speak about any player," he said.

"We just want the best for our players and we try to do that, and we know the influence that we can have - sometimes positively, sometimes not so positively, towards them.

"We will always try to do our best to help them, but this is a team sport that needs 24 players that have to fulfil a role. And the role that you have in August, it might be very different to the one you have in March.

"So making early decisions, in my experience, is not something good at all and as well because the team has certain needs that has to be accomplished. And in order to do that you cannot do it with six, 10 or 14 players. It is impossible. So you need everyone and Aaron has a really important role in the team.

"I have no messages for any clubs [who may look to sign Ramsdale]. I can talk a little bit about my players, how much I like my players, how much I like Aaron and that we want Aaron with us, that's for sure."

  • Wherefore art thou Romeo?

He's back on the training pitch with Chelsea!

Romeo Lavia is finally back in training for the Blues as he nears a return from an injury that has denied him a debut for the club.

The midfielder has not played since arriving in the summer but Mauricio Pochettino has provided a positive update.

He said: “Romeo Lavia is close.

"They [Lavia and Christopher Nkunku] trained today on the pitch. Hopefully with the team next week.”

Lavia has also posted a picture on Instagram with his boots back on.

  • De Gea set for return

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is finally set to sign for a new club.

The Sun report that the Spaniard, who left Man United at the end of his contract in the summer, is in talks with Real Betis.

De Gea is said to be heading for a short-term deal but the La Liga side have to sell a player first due to salary-cap restrictions.

That means the deal won't go through until January but it seems the shot-stopper's search for a new club is over.

  • Anfield for Archie?

Leeds starlet Archie Gray is being eyed by Liverpool among other Premier League sides, according to Mail Online.

The 17-year-old has had a breakout year so far under Daniel Farke in the Championship and he is now attracting interest.

Gray has been playing in midfield and at full-back, leading to comparisons to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are reported to be preparing a summer bid, but it will cost a lot, with Leeds said to be asking for over £40million.

This time it's Eberechi Eze who has signed a new long-term deal at Crystal Palace.

Eze has been linked to a move away after impressing last season, however, the midfielder has committed his future to the Eagles.

Speaking following the announcement, he said: “I’m delighted to have signed for the club for another three-and-a-half years.

“I’m now in my fourth season with the club and I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’m loving every moment.

"Hopefully the fans can expect more of the same in the future, God willing – I’m praying for exciting performances, fun times, goals and wins.”

  • Christie contract

Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie has extended his contract at the club until 2027.

Speaking after Christie's new deal was announced, chief executive Neill Blake said: “We’re delighted Ryan is extending his stay with the club.

“He has been an important part of our squad since he joined us and has unique attributes, none more so than his high level of tactical intelligence.

“Ryan is a model professional on and off the pitch and he’s an extremely popular member of the dressing room.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to make an impact at Vitality Stadium for the next four years.”

  • Rome to become home

Roma are keen on signing Romelu Lukaku on a permanent deal at the end of his loan, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgian striker headed back to Italy on loan from Chelsea this summer to link up with former boss Jose Mourinho.

He has since scored nine goals in 12 games and the Serie A side already want to keep him permanently.

Tiago Pinto, Roma's Sporting director, is reported to have negotiated a £30million option to sign the 30-year-old next summer.

  • Man United takeover update

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's acquisition of a minority stake in Manchester United is expected to be ratified during the international break, talkSPORT understands.

Ratcliffe has agreed to pay £1.25bn for a 25 per cent shareholding with a pledge of £245m additional funds to improve the club's infrastructure.

The British billionaire is seeking eventual overall control and is still in talks with the Raine banking group, who are handling the sale process on behalf of the Glazer family, over the overall make-up of the deal.

Once a full agreement has been reached and approved by United's 12-strong board of directors, including six members of the Glazer family, it is likely to take up to two months for Ratcliffe to pass the Premier League's owners and directors test.

  • Evan extension

Brighton star Evan Ferguson has signed a new six-year contract.

The Ireland sensation is only 18, but already has 21 goals in 47 Premier League appearances.

Many expect Ferguson to be the Seagulls' next big-money export, with Tottenham and Manchester United both linked.

However, the teenager has now committed his future to the Amex Stadium with a new long-term deal.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: "Evan deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him."

  • Arsenal back in for Luiz

Douglas Luiz is set to be a target for Arsenal again in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners were reported to have had multiple bids for Luiz turned down by Aston Villa in the summer.

However, Mikel Arteta is not giving up and he looks set to come in with another move for the Brazilian.

Arsenal are looking to bring in a midfielder with Thomas Partey set for a long spell on the sidelines through injury.

Luiz is their top target but Villa don't want to sell, and ESPN report his valuation is set to be around £50million.

  • Coach Dele

Everton manager Sean Dyche has revealed that Dele Alli is making a big influence as a makeshift coach for the club.

Dele is recovering from an injury while also coming back from his brave decision to open up on his mental health in July.

However, despite him not being able to play, the former England international is taking on a new role...

  • No update on Sancho

You have to feel sorry for Jadon Sancho.

The winger has been totally cut from the first-team picture at Old Trafford and forgotten about because of his public outburst against Erik ten Hag.

The winger has refused to apologise but has been ostracised by his manager and his career with the Red Devils looks to be over.

However, it's still unclear who's leading the race or where he will be going.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared the latest with Caught Offside.

He said: “There’s also still nothing happening with Jadon Sancho, even if he is likely to leave Old Trafford this January.

“I have no updates on specific clubs as of now, it’s too early, though my personal feeling is that he would benefit from a move abroad to try to get his career back on track. I think Sancho could be perfect for Italian and German clubs. He needs that kind of league to be back on track.

“Still, I don’t like making guesses about a player’s future, so we’ll have to wait a few more weeks, and then it should become clearer what the next step for Sancho will be.”

  • Toney sacrifice

If Arsenal are to sign Ivan Toney in Jnauary, they will have to sacrifice some first-team players.

The Athletic report that to fund a move for the striker, the Gunners are going to need to sell some players, or hope they get a loan from their owners.

They claim Arsenal and Brentford have a good relationship, but the Bees won't be interested in a similar loan deal that was agreed for David Raya in the summer.

That move is essentially a permanent transfer but has been brokered in a way to help the Gunners with Financial Fair Play.

But talkSPORT understands Brentford are unwilling to sell Toney in January.

This means Arsenal might be forced to wait until next summer to bring in the England international.

  • Arsenal face transfer tussle

One of Arsenal's main priorities in the upcoming transfer window is to sign someone who can fill in for Thomas Partey.

Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi is a player Mikel Arteta hugely admires, and he has a release clause of just over £50million.

However, Bayern Munich are also in the market for a new defensive midfielder and BILD are reporting the Spaniard is one of their top targets.

Zubimendi's contract expires in 2027 and the Gunners are now going to face a real battle if they are to recruit the defensive midfielder in January.

  • Bout checks in

Newcastle United are set to continue their off-field restructuring with the appointment of Marcel Bout.

The Dutchman is set to become the Toon's new head of global scouting.

He worked with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and Bayern Munich, so has a huge wealth of experience that should help the Magpies in the transfer market.

He will work closely with Dan Ashworth and chief scout Steve Nickson.

Newcastle haven't officially announced Bout's arrival, but the 60-year-old has been speaking to Dutch outlet AD and confirmed his next career move.

He said: "I have recently come into contact with Newcastle. The steady expansion of the club appeals to me.

"I'm also happy to be back in England and at Champions League level."

  • Eze boost

Eberechi Eze is set to commit his future to Crystal Palace and sign a new deal with the Eagles.

The Daily Mail claim the England international will put pen to paper on a new £100,000 per week contract.

Eze was the subject of interest from Manchester City in the summer and this deal will protect Palace.

However, there is still expected to be a lot of interest in Eze in the summer.

But this contract will allow the Eagles to demand an extraordinary fee for the attacking midfielder.

Let's start by looking at the biggest story.

talkSPORT sources understand that Premier League clubs are set to hold a vote later this month to ban clubs from loaning players from teams under the same ownership.

It follows rumours that Newcastle are going to sign Ruben Neves on loan from Al-Hilal in January.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund own Al-Hilal and are the majority shareholders at Newcastle.

There are nine top-flight clubs involved in multi-ownership schemes and the change requires 14 teams to vote in favour of it.
