Gabby Agbonlahor believes that many pundits and fans should follow Ghanaian MP Isaac Adongo and apologise to Harry Maguire.

Adongo had previously debated vice president Mahamudu Bawumia, hinting he scored political own goals in what was also a dig to the United star.

However, amid Maguire's resurgence for the Premier League giants, Adongo publicly apologised to him whilst speaking in parliament, with the England international accepting in a reply on social media.

Agbonlahor has previously called for United fans to do the same after the defender faced huge swathes of criticism in recent years.

And now he has once again made such a plea, whilst also calling for fellow pundits to say sorry for their past judgements on Maguire.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast after the viral clip of Adongo this week, he said: "I think jokes aside, and everyone finds that clip funny when he first did it, but when that clip came out, it was disrespectful to Maguire.

"He would have seen it going around Twitter (now X), everyone was having a dig at him, 'You've got to leave, you've got to go to West Ham, you're awful, you're this...'

"Everyone was on his case, like there's so many people that need to apologise to Harry Maguire because his mental health must've been all over the place.

"He's dug deep, he's got a good family around him, friends, and he's stuck in there and he's started playing his best football now. He's in great form for England and Manchester United, keeping four-time Champions League winner [Raphael] Varane out the team.

"He's keeping [Victor] Lindelof out the team, [Lisandro] Martinez comes back I'm sure Maguire will still start. So for me, there's a lot of pundits and fans out there that should be apologising to Harry Maguire."

Maguire has made 11 appearances for United this season, with starts coming in nine of those across all competitions.

Erik ten Hag's side have had to deal with injuries in defence but the 30-year-old has proven to be an assured fixture at the back.

He scored their crucial Champions League winner at home against FC Copenhagen and assisted Scott McTominay's winner in their late victory over Brentford.

Maguire has been rewarded for his efforts with further call-ups to the England team, with the centre-back in contention to play at Euro 2024 next summer.
