Newcastle could look towards Phillips in the January transfer window amid the Italian betting scandal involving Sandro Tonali.

talkSPORT understands the Magpies fear the 23-year-old could face a lengthy suspension for betting offences whilst at AC Milan.

However, The Sun report that City, who could be willing to let Phillips leave in the new year, will wait to see if Newcastle are title rivals.

Should Eddie Howe's side be seen as a challenger then alternative clubs could make a move, with Bayern an interested side.

A switch to the German giants would see Phillips join his England teammate Kane, who has scored nine goals since his summer arrival.

The duo have played 25 times together at international level and could become club teammates at Bayern too in January.

West Ham are also reported to be interested in Phillips, who has made only five appearances for City this season.

The 27-year-old has played 70 minutes in the Premier League during their opening eight games and just seven in the Champions League.

Phillips did feature from the off in their 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat away at Newcastle but that's his only appearance in the starting XI.

After England's 3-1 Euro 2024 qualifying win over Italy on Tuesday, he admitted he needs more game time and will consider his City future.

Rodri's consistent starts and John Stones' adaptation into midfield under Pep Guardiola have contributed to Phillips' lack of minutes.
